Idli Podi can also be served as a snack or can also be packed in a kid’s lunch box. The amount of milagai podi you use to make Idli Podi will depend on how spicy you want your Idli to be. I add more when I make for myself and reduce the amount when I make for kids. I have used homemade idli podi. If it is not available, you can also make use of store-bought idli podi mix.
Procedure To Make Idli Podi Recipe
- Heat a pan and roast some sesame seeds in it till the seeds start to sputter. keep aside the roasted seeds

In the same pan add 1 tsp oil after the oil has heated add some mustard seeds and let the seeds sputter, Once the seeds start to sputter add some urad dal. Fry the urad dal till it becomes golden brown and keep it aside

Add some oil again in the pan and roast chana dal till it becomes golden brown

Fry some chilies in the same pan till the color of the chilies changes to light brown. If required add some oil to fry the chilies. Let all the above mentioned ingredients cool
Take the roasted sesame seeds in mixer grinder and grind it to a smooth powder. keep this powder aside, add the roasted chilies and salt to the mixer grinder and grind it into a smooth powder
To this powder add the roasted seeds and grind it into a coarse powder. To this powder add the sesame powder and grind it a little bit

Your idli podi is now ready. You can serve it with mini idlis or dosa


Idli Podi Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 tsp Sesame seeds
- ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
- ½ tsp Chana Dal
- Curry Leaves Chopped
- Salt To Taste
- 3/4 cup urad dal
- 20 red chilies (adjust the chilies as per your taste
- 2 pinch hing
